Biography

Cauby Peixoto was one of the most celebrated and versatile interpreters in Brazilian music, known for his deep, velvety voice and flamboyant performance style. Emerging in the late 1940s, he built a legendary career spanning several decades, deeply rooted in samba-canção and bolero while also pioneering early Brazilian rock and roll. Coming from a deeply musical family that included his uncle Romualdo Peixoto and cousin Cyro Monteiro, he charmed audiences with his elaborate hairstyles, elegant attire, and unmatched stage presence.

Throughout his illustrious career, Cauby achieved major milestones both nationally and internationally, earning a Latin Grammy and being honored by the Latin Recording Academy. He interacted with global music icons such as Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, and Elvis Presley, and even performed in the United States under the moniker Ron Coby. His timeless hits, notably "Conceição" and "Bastidores," cemented his legacy as a titan of Brazilian song, inspiring generations of artists including Ângela Maria, Agnaldo Timóteo, and Erasmo Carlos.

Even in his later years, Cauby maintained a devoted following through weekly performances in São Paulo until his passing in 2016. His cultural footprint remains profound, celebrated through documentary films, theatrical tributes, and posthumous awards that honor his monumental contributions to MPB and Brazilian popular culture.
