Biography

Banda Cavalo de Pau is a pioneering Brazilian electronic forró group founded in Fortaleza, Ceará, in May 1993 by businessman Emanuel Gurgel. The group quickly established itself as a major force in the romantic forró movement, blending emotive lyrics with danceable beats and distinctive accordion solos alongside contemporaries like Mastruz com Leite and Mel com Terra. Their unique name was inspired by children playing with wooden broomstick horses, capturing a sense of playful nostalgia that resonated deeply with audiences across Brazil.

Throughout their extensive career, the band has released over 18 compact discs and multiple DVDs, solidifying their legacy with timeless hits. Their 1993 debut LP, Cão Chupando Manga, featured the iconic track "Timidez," famously interpreted by singer Francylene Mendes, which remains their biggest career anthem to this day. Subsequent releases such as Noda de Caju in 1994 brought forth further chart-topping successes like "Passos na Areia" and "Brincar de Amar," cementing their status on national radio and large concert stages.

Today, the musical collective continues to tour extensively across Brazil under the current lineup featuring vocalists Eliane Fernandes, Alex Santos, and Tayla Lima. They seamlessly bridge generations by performing both their classic nostalgic anthems and fresh repertoire for dedicated forró fans nationwide. Their enduring influence aligns them with other prominent Northeast rhythm pioneers.
