Biography

Caxtrinho, the stage name of Paulo Vitor Castro, is a 25-year-old musician from Belford Roxo, Rio de Janeiro. His work stands out for an experimental and political approach to samba, exploring the percussive guitar as his trademark. As a Black artist from the outskirts of Baixada Fluminense, with deep roots in Afro-Brazilian religions, Caxtrinho uses music as a platform for political reflection and aesthetic provocation. His work reinvents samba with an experimental aesthetic, looking at Brazil from the perspective of Baixada Fluminense, a territory that is frequently made invisible. The album "Queda Livre" (2024) is a portrait of a more everyday, living, and real Rio de Janeiro, guided by a percussive guitar and compositions that blend pop and experimentation, always with groove and social critique.

Caxtrinho began his musical journey around 2021, and since then he has performed at various festivals and projects, such as the Novas Frequências Festival, where he shared the stage with artists like Lyzza and Ale Hop. His music is recognized for crossing pop and experimentation, with compositions loaded with groove and social critique, traversing a broad palette of Brazilian popular music with an original and unmistakable signature. He also participated in the "MPB Ano Zero" project, celebrating the 60th anniversary of Brazilian popular music with the official music video for the song "Máfia da Miçanga".

Music critics have highlighted Caxtrinho's originality, comparing him to musicians who reinvent the codes of Brazilian popular music. His sound is described as a fusion of Afro-Brazilian rhythms, psychedelic textures, and a percussive guitar style that turns samba into a sonic protest. Caxtrinho's music reflects life on the margins, with noir tones, emotional weight, and social critique, adding contemporary chaos to the nostalgia of bossa nova to recreate a turbulent chronicle of daily struggle.
