Biography

Celsinho Silva, born Celso José da Silva on April 3, 1957, is a highly respected Brazilian percussionist, composer, and producer. Hailing from Rio de Janeiro, he comes from a musical lineage, being the son of the renowned pandeiro player Jorginho do Pandeiro and the nephew of the legendary 7-string guitarist Dino 7 Cordas. Silva's musical journey began in 1976 when he joined the choro group Os Carioquinhas. His talent and dedication quickly established him as a prominent figure in the Brazilian music scene.

In 1978, Celsinho Silva co-founded the influential choro group Nó Em Pingo D'Água, which became known for its innovative interpretations and contributions to instrumental music. He was also part of the initial lineup of Camerata Carioca, participating in the acclaimed "Tributo a Jacob do Bandolim" album. Since 1980, Silva has been an integral part of Paulinho da Viola's band, collaborating on numerous shows and recordings, solidifying his reputation as a versatile and sought-after musician.

Beyond his performance career, Celsinho Silva is a dedicated educator and producer. He founded and teaches pandeiro at the Escola Portátil de Música, and has conducted pandeiro workshops in Japan since 2002. His production work includes albums for artists like Machiko Watarumi and the Conjunto Época de Ouro. Silva's extensive career and contributions have made him a significant artist in Brazilian popular music, particularly within the choro and samba genres.
