Biography

Celso Pacheco Simões, known artistically as Celso Sim, was born in São Paulo on May 31, 1969. Working as a singer, songwriter, music producer, and actor, he began his artistic training studying acting and literature with Myriam Muniz, collaborating with her in theater between 1984 and 1989. In the 1990s, he began his professional career in music alongside Jorge Mautner, with whom he deepened his studies in composition and singing.

Throughout his career, Celso Sim has built remarkable partnerships with major names in Brazilian culture, participating in prominent theatrical and musical productions. Since 1994, he has collaborated with Teatro Oficina, under the direction of José Celso Martinez Correa, and in 2002 he was awarded the Shell Theater Prize alongside José Miguel Wisnik and Tom Zé for the soundtrack of the show Os Sertões: A Terra. As a music producer, he spearheaded the acclaimed album A mulher do fim do mundo by Elza Soares, which won the Latin Grammy in 2016.

His discography features several original works and interpretations of important Brazilian music composers, such as the album O amor entrou como um raio, released in 2017, in which he pays homage to the Bahian artist Batatinha. In addition to his recorded work, Sim has also left his mark in cinema, acting in feature films such as Carandiru, directed by Hector Babenco, and Canção de Baal, by Helena Ignez. In 2018, the artist relocated his residence to Lisbon.
