Biography

Centúrias was a Brazilian heavy metal band formed in São Paulo, SP, in 1980. The band is considered one of the pioneers and most important acts of traditional heavy metal in the country, having gained prominence in the national underground scene. Their musical journey contributed significantly to laying the foundations of Brazilian metal even before the international projection of the genre.

The band began their journey by participating in the compilation "SP Metal 1", released in 1984, where they presented the tracks "Duas Rodas" and "Portas Negras". In 1985, they released the EP "Última Noite", which blended hard rock with heavy metal and contained classics like "Não Pense, Não Fale". The lineup at the time featured Paulo Thomaz (drums), Eduardo Camargo (vocals), Adriano Giudice (guitar) and Rubens Guarnieri (bass). Shortly after, with lineup changes, they recorded the LP "Ninja" in 1987, which already featured a sound more oriented toward heavy metal, with highlights such as the tracks "Fortes Olhos", "Senhores da Razão" and "Animal".

Despite the recognition and quality of their work, Centúrias ended their activities in the late 80s, partly due to changes in the music scene, with the rise of thrash metal and the preference for bands that sang in English. In 2001, the record label Baratos Afins reissued the band's two albums on CD. After a long period of hiatus, the band returned in 2012 and remains active, being respected as a living heritage of national metal, performing occasional shows that celebrate 80s rock.
