Biography

Chiclete com Banana is one of the most emblematic and successful groups in the history of axé music, establishing itself as one of the main pillars of the Salvador Carnival. The band originated in the late 1970s from a dance band called Scorpius, adopting its final name in 1981 to reflect the intense rhythmic miscegenation that characterized its repertoire. Throughout its trajectory, the group revolutionized the structure of the "trios elétricos" and achieved impressive sales figures, winning a legion of fervent fans known as "chicleteiros."

Over the years, the group's lineup went through several notable transformations, including the departure of founders and long-time members like Missinho, Cacik Jonne, and lead singer Bell Marques, whose farewell in 2014 marked a new era for the musical institution. Even with changes in the front line — which later included singers like Rafa Chaves and current vocalist Khill —, the band maintained its relevance in the Brazilian festive scene, immortalizing classics that fueled carnivals and hit charts alongside other major names in the genre, such as Ivete Sangalo and Banda Eva.
