Biography

Chico Anysio was one of the most prominent comedians, actors, and writers in the history of Brazilian entertainment. Born in Maranguape, he moved to Rio de Janeiro as a child and began his artistic career in radio during the 1940s before successfully migrating to television. Over a career spanning more than six decades, he created over two hundred iconic comedic characters that deeply shaped Brazilian popular culture and humor.

Throughout his legendary television career, he helmed highly influential programs such as Chico Anysio Show and Chico Total, introducing unforgettable characters like Professor Raimundo and Justo Veríssimo. His extraordinary versatility also extended to cinema, theater, and literature, earning him widespread acclaim and the highest cultural honor in Brazil, the Order of Cultural Merit, in 2009. He frequently collaborated with and directed many notable names in Brazilian comedy, including Paulo Gracindo, Grande Otelo, and Jô Soares.

His legacy endures through generations of humorists and actors whom he inspired, as well as through family members who followed artistic paths, such as his son Bruno Mazzeo. Chico Anysio passed away in March 2012, leaving an indelible mark on the nation's artistic landscape as a master of satire and character creation.
