Biography
Chico Bernardes, stage name of Francisco Bernardes Pereira, is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from São Paulo, born in 1999. He began his musical career in 2019, at the age of 20, with the release of his self-titled debut album, on which he arranged and played all the instruments. His work, which dialogues with North American folk and Brazilian music, has already led him to perform in several cities across Brazil and embark on his first tour in Portugal.
During the period of social isolation, Chico Bernardes collaborated with artists such as Luiza Brina, Paul Higgs, Arthur Decloedt, and Christopher Bear, drummer for the American band Grizzly Bear. These partnerships resulted in songs released on an EP by the labels Risco (São Paulo) and Mapache (Barcelona). In 2024, he released his second original album, "Outros fios", featuring ten unreleased tracks.
Descended from a musical family, Chico is the son of musician Maurício Pereira and the brother of singer-songwriter Tim Bernardes, leader of the band O Terno. Despite the strong family influence, Chico has carved out his own artistic path, exploring sounds that blend influences from artists like Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Fleet Foxes, and Nick Drake, alongside references from Brazilian music, such as Sérgio Sampaio and Gilberto Gil.
