Biography

Chico Teixeira, born Francisco Teixeira de Oliveira in São Paulo, is a prominent Brazilian musician, singer, and songwriter. Coming from a deeply musical family, he is the son of the renowned singer-songwriter Renato Teixeira, alongside whom he took his first significant steps in the music industry. In 1999, he collaborated with his father and Zé Geraldo on the album "O Novo Amanhece," marking the official beginning of a lifelong dedication to Brazilian roots music. Throughout his early career, he also worked closely with folk and traditional icons such as Rolando Boldrin and Pena Branca, solidifying his deep connection to the country's rural and sertanejo heritage.

After years of performing in venues across São Paulo and working behind the scenes as a roadie and stage assistant, Chico Teixeira embarked on his solo recording career. In 2002, he released his self-titled debut album, "Chico Teixeira," featuring an intimate arrangement of voice and acoustic guitar that sold thousands of independent copies. His subsequent work showcased his expanding artistic vision and collaborations with other esteemed musicians, including Gabriel Sater and Dominguinhos on his 2011 album "Mais que o Viajante."

In 2017, he reached a new milestone with the release of the live album and television special "Raízes Sertanejas - Ao Vivo." Recorded at the prestigious Auditório Ibirapuera under the artistic direction of Mauricio Valim, the project featured guest appearances by Sérgio Reis, Irene Atienza, and his father, Renato Teixeira. Broadcast by TV Cultura as an end-of-year special, the project celebrated traditional Brazilian folk sounds and cemented Chico Teixeira's status as a vital modern custodian of the sertanejo genre.
