Biography

Choro Novo is a choro group formed in Rio de Janeiro in 2010. The trio consists of Abel Luiz (cavaquinho, mandolin, tenor guitar, and 10-string caipira guitar), Marlon Mouzer (7-string acoustic guitar), and Reinaldo Pestana (drums and percussion). The group stands out for its ability to navigate different musical influences, keeping choro as its base, but exploring classical, popular, regional, and urban sounds.

Throughout their career, Choro Novo released the CD "Sotaques & Influências" in 2013, a work that was nominated for the Brazilian Music Award in the "Instrumental Music – Group Album and Soloist" category the following year. The album featured cover art by Carlos Paredes and was presented in concerts in Rio de Janeiro and other cities. In 2019, the group presented compositions from their new CD, "Diálogos Sonoros", in a show at SESC Engenho de Dentro.

The group has performed in various projects and festivals, such as "Mercado da Música" in Vitória (ES), "Música no Museu – Mês das Cordas", SESC Niterói, and Cidade das Artes in Rio de Janeiro. Choro Novo aims to showcase choro as a rich and versatile musical language, capable of moving and connecting the audience to a diversity of musical genres, contributing to the development of new musicians and audiences.
