Biography

Choro Rasgado is a Brazilian choro ensemble formed in São Paulo around the year 2000. The group emerged from the vibrant choro scene at the Ó do Borogodó bar, a well-known hub for the genre in the city. The initial lineup featured Zé Barbeiro on seven-string guitar, Alessandro Penezzi on solo guitar, Rodrigo Y Castro on flute, and Roberta Valente on pandeiro.

The ensemble quickly gained recognition for its performances in various SESC units across São Paulo, as well as in cultural centers and municipal events throughout the state. They also had the opportunity to perform at the Clube do Choro in Brasília. Choro Rasgado achieved notable success in several choro festivals and competitions, including winning the "Festival de Avaré" in 2004 and securing second place in the "Festival Curitiba no Choro" and "V Prêmio Nabor Pires de Camargo." Their talent was further acknowledged with a "Prêmio Tim" nomination for "Revelação" (Newcomer) in 2006.

In 2005, Choro Rasgado released their debut CD, "Baba de calango," which featured collaborations with prominent musicians such as Toninho Ferraguti, Caíto Marcondes, and Arismar do Espírito Santo. The album showcased original compositions by the group's members. The band continued to be active, performing regularly and contributing to the rich tradition of Brazilian choro music.
