Biography

Cícero Nogueira, born José Cícero Gomes Nogueira in Indaiá do Aguapeí on September 2, 1957, is a prominent Brazilian singer and songwriter of evangelical music. He began his musical journey in childhood, singing and playing the accordion in public square services in the interior of São Paulo, and honed his musical knowledge in the orchestra of the Assembleia de Deus in Votuporanga. Moving to the capital of São Paulo in his teens, he balanced the beginning of his artistic career with working as a taxi driver before signing his first record deal.

The release of his debut album, O Amor de Deus, took place in 1973 through the Deus é Amor record label. Over more than four decades of ministry, he has built a vast discography with dozens of albums and millions of copies sold, highlighting works such as O Arrebatamento da Igreja, released in 1982 by his own label Manancial, which boosted his national recognition. His expressive sales mark placed him among the record-holders of the Brazilian phonographic industry, alongside fundamental names in Brazilian popular music like Roberto Carlos and Nelson Ned.

In addition to his solid trajectory on stages and in studios throughout Brazil, taking his songs to hundreds of municipalities and expanding his tours to the United States, Europe, and South America, Cícero also ventured into politics. He has been a candidate for public office in states such as Ceará and Rio Grande do Norte. His work remains one of the pillars of traditional gospel music in the country.
