Biography

Cine was a Brazilian pop and pop rock band formed in 2007 in São Paulo, originally starting under the name Without Shoes. The group gained massive prominence during the late 2000s and early 2010s as one of the main exponents of the "colorido" youth movement in Brazil, characterized by vibrant neon fashion and energetic teen pop sounds. Their breakthrough came with the 2009 debut studio album, Flashback!, which featured the smash hit single "Garota Radical" and earned them mainstream success, including awards at the MTV Video Music Brasil and Prêmio Multishow.

Throughout their career, the band evolved their musical style by incorporating electropop, synthpop, and danceable electronic beats, releasing subsequent projects such as the album Boombox Arcade and the EP Verano. They collaborated with various notable Brazilian acts like Turma do Pagode and MC Guimê, further expanding their footprint in contemporary Brazilian pop music. After years of touring and releasing chart-oriented hits, the group announced an indefinite hiatus in 2016 to allow members to focus on individual professional endeavors.

In 2023, the quintet reunited to perform a final series of farewell shows at the Replay Festival in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, accompanied by the release of their parting single "Último Clichê". Despite their eventual dissolution, Cine remains a nostalgic landmark of the Brazilian internet-driven pop music boom of the MySpace era, heavily associated with the youth culture of that decade alongside contemporaries.
