Biography

Cirurgia Moral is a Brazilian hip-hop group formed in Ceilândia, Distrito Federal, in 1993. The group emerged during a period when Brazilian rap was gaining significant traction, addressing social inequalities and the realities of life in marginalized communities. Their lyrical themes often mirrored those of prominent groups like Racionais MC's and Facção Central, focusing on conscious narratives and the struggles of urban life.

Initially a trio, the group's lineup evolved over time, with Rei (MC) and DJ W being central figures. Their debut album, "Cérebro Assassino," was released in 1994 by the independent label Discovery. This album, initially released on vinyl, featured acoustic tracks and a collaboration with Câmbio Negro. "Cérebro Assassino" achieved considerable success, selling 6,000 copies and earning Cirurgia Moral the "Revelation of the Year" award in the Rap category at a Metrô FM event in São Paulo.

In 1995, Cirurgia Moral released their second album, "A Minha Parte Eu Faço," with production by DJ Jamaika. This album, featuring only Rei and DJ W, further solidified their presence in the Brazilian hip-hop scene. Throughout their career, Cirurgia Moral has been associated with other significant artists and labels within the Brazilian rap movement, contributing to the genre's rich tapestry.
