Biography
O Clã Brasil is a Brazilian musical group formed in João Pessoa, Paraíba, in the early 2000s. The original lineup and core of the group is composed of the Alves family: Lucyane Pereira Alves (accordion, lead vocals), Laryssa Pereira Alves (zabumba, violin, vocals), Lizete Pereira Alves (transverse flute, pífano, vocals), and the father José Hílton Alves, known as Badu (seven-string acoustic guitar, vocals). Later, Fabiane Fernandes (cavaquinho, ten-string viola, vocals) and Maria José Pereira Alves (triangle, vocals) also joined the group, as well as Francisco Filho on percussion. The Alves family has a strong connection to music, with the parents being musicians with roots in forró and northeastern regional music.
With a strong influence from major names in traditional northeastern music such as Luiz Gonzaga, Jackson do Pandeiro, Antônio Barros, Jacinto Silva, Gordurinha, and Elino Julião, Clã Brasil released their first CD in 2002, titled "A Sedução do Clã Brasil". The following year, they presented the album "De Onde Vem o Baião", which included a title track composed by Gilberto Gil in the 1980s and "Paraíba Meu Amor" by Chico César. In 2004, the group released their first live album, "Forró Pé-de-Serra Ao Vivo", where they re-recorded classics by Luiz Gonzaga and Zé Dantas, such as "Asa Branca" and "Sabiá".
Throughout their career, Clã Brasil has released several albums, including "Clã Brasil Canta Dominguinhos" (2009), a project dedicated to the compositions of the renowned accordionist. The group has also stood out for their live performances, which resulted in CDs and DVDs, featuring guest appearances by artists such as Sivuca, Marinês, and Dominguinhos. In 2010, they were recognized as the most successful group from Paraíba in Brazil and abroad, receiving the "Comenda Ariano Suassuna". The band is known for their sound that blends forró pé-de-serra with arrangements that incorporate instruments like the transverse flute, cavaquinho, and seven-string acoustic guitar, enriching the traditional foundation of the genre.
