Biography
Clara Silveira de Campos is a Brazilian multimedia artist born in 1990, whose nomadic practice is deeply influenced by her background as a tango dancer. Her work investigates bodily memory through gesture, using Argentine tango both as an archive of diasporic memory and as a choreography of violence. Silveira's research focuses on the body as a living archive of inherited traumas, exploring the classical dichotomy between Greek melancholy and Latin furor, understanding fury as a vital antidote to melancholic paralysis.
Working with installation, video, and performance, she transforms personal testimonies into collective resonance, creating spaces where individual memory meets shared experience. Her practice extends to social engagement through community projects with youth and collaborations with the female collective Arsenália, employing art as a tool for empowerment and a response to structural violence. Recent projects include her solo exhibition "Exercises to Predict the Future" at the Centro Cultural Veras and the experimental dance film "Chororô", commissioned by the Brazilian Ministry of Culture.
Silveira's practice has expanded through international residencies in Milan and Berlin, where she developed projects such as "Hard Candy", "Net", and "Dinner Table", which continue her investigation into violence, displacement, and bodily memory through South American cultural traditions. Her work "Chororô" received an honorable mention at the Oeiras Videopoetry Festival in Portugal.
