Claudemir Marçal, widely known as Althair, is a prominent Brazilian singer and songwriter, best recognized as one half of the iconic sertanejo duo Althair & Alexandre. Born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, Marçal's musical journey began in the early 1980s when he formed the duo with his brother, Laudarcy Ricardo de Oliveira, who goes by the stage name Alexandre. Initially, the duo was known as Ataíde & Alexandre, a name under which they achieved significant success in the Brazilian country music scene.

Throughout their career, Althair & Alexandre have released a substantial discography, including numerous successful albums and singles that have become staples of sertanejo music. Some of their most popular hits include "Deus Me Livre," "Tá Nervoso... Vai Pescá," and "Laço Aberto." Their music is characterized by romantic themes and danceable rhythms, blending rural and urban influences inherent to the sertanejo tradition. The song "Deus Me Livre" gained even wider recognition when it was covered by the popular group Raça Negra.

In 2016, a legal dispute led the duo to officially change their name from Ataíde & Alexandre to Althair & Alexandre. This rebranding marked a new chapter while preserving their established musical identity and commitment to sertanejo music.
