Biography
Claudio Motta is a Brazilian singer, composer, and guitarist born on January 13, 1961, in Campo Grande, Rio de Janeiro. Coming from a musical family, he learned to play the guitar at age 12, an instrument he acquired by selling his bicycle. His early musical influences included Bossa Nova, Dolores Duran, Braguinha, and Noel Rosa. Motta holds degrees in Literature and Law.
Motta began his career in the 1980s, participating in rock festivals. In the same decade, he formed "A Banda ou Nada," an original band where he also arranged songs by prominent Brazilian artists such as Milton Nascimento, Chico Buarque, and Caetano Veloso. In the 2000s, he created "Grupo Bambo de Bambu," inspired by Rio de Janeiro's regional music from the early to mid-20th century, performing choros, maxixes, marchinhas, and sambas. During this period, he also composed for theater and was part of the "Veia Musical" musicians' cooperative, with his songs being recorded by Nilze Carvalho and Carol Assad.
Throughout his career, Motta has collaborated with various musicians, including Oscar Bolão, Cristina Buarque, and Tibério Gaspar. In 2018, he released the album "A Roda do Tempo" on the Fina Flor label, featuring collaborations with Paulão Sete Cordas, Jards Macalé, Marcos Suzano, and Nilze Carvalho. His discography also includes "Céu Deserto" (2019) and "Veia Musical Vol." (2003).
