Biography

Cláudio Roditi was born in Rio de Janeiro on May 28, 1946, and established himself as one of the great jazz trumpeters of his generation. Coming from a Jewish family, he showed early talent by reaching the finals of the International Jazz Competition in Vienna at eighteen, subsequently embarking on international experiences that included a stint in Mexico City and studies at the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Throughout his career, the musician joined Ed Lincoln's ensemble in the 1960s and later took up residence in New York, where he actively collaborated with major exponents of jazz and Latin jazz. His international talent opened doors to a notable invitation from Dizzy Gillespie to join the United Nations Orchestra, in addition to partnerships with names such as Paquito D'Rivera and Herbie Mann.

Roditi's distinctive style paid homage to great influences of the instrument, having dedicated productions to icons like Lee Morgan. The artist passed away on January 18, 2020, at the age of 73, leaving behind a vast discography that blended jazz sophistication with Brazilian rhythmic richness.
