Biography

Clube do Balanço is a Brazilian musical group formed in 1999, dedicated to the revival and evolution of the samba-rock genre. Originally led by Marco Mattoli, who shared vocal duties with Tereza Gama, the ensemble emerged as a prominent force in the contemporary Brazilian groove scene. Their debut album, "Swing & Samba-rock," was released in 2001 and featured guest appearances from notable artists such as Paula Lima, Seu Jorge, and Erasmo Carlos, establishing the band's energetic and collaborative spirit from the onset.

Over the years, the group evolved to embrace more original compositions and diverse sonic influences. Their 2005 sophomore release, "Samba Incrementado," focused entirely on self-penned material without outside guests. This was followed by 2009's "Pela Contramão," which incorporated subtle elements of jazz and soul into their signature sound. Subsequent releases, including 2014's "Menina da Janela" — featuring a collaboration with composer Nei Lopes — and 2019's "Balanço na quebrada," further solidified their status in Brazilian popular music.

Following the passing of founder Marco Mattoli in 2022, the group continued its artistic journey with the release of the 2024 instrumental album "Cadê Tereza?". Throughout their career, Clube do Balanço has shared artistic affinities with other culturally rich Brazilian acts like Banda Black Rio and Funk Como Le Gusta, maintaining a vibrant tradition of dance-oriented national music.
