Biography
Combo X is a Brazilian musical project formed in Pernambuco, with deep roots in Manguebeat. The group emerged in 2007 following an invitation from percussionist Naná Vasconcelos to Gilmar Bolla 8, founder and former percussionist of Nação Zumbi, to create a project featuring Afro-Brazilian rhythms. The band is composed of musicians who have passed through important names of the Pernambuco music scene, such as Nação Zumbi and Mundo Livre S/A. This connection to Manguebeat is evident in Combo X's sound, which blends Afro-Brazilian percussion with electronic elements and influences ranging from frevo to rock.
Combo X's first album, "A Ponte" (2013), was a tribute to Chico Science, the icon of Manguebeat, and explored a percussion arsenal with alfaias, timbales, and drums, complemented by electronic effects. The second album, "Meu Brinquedo" (2019), presented a more organic sound, with arrangements that included bass, guitar, wind instruments, and keyboards, celebrating the popular imagery of Pernambuco. The musical production of both albums featured collaboration from names like BiD and Bactéria, who also played a role in musical direction.
Throughout its trajectory, Combo X has stood out for its innovation and fusion of rhythms, maintaining a strong connection with the cultural roots of the Northeast. The band consists of Gilmar Bolla 8, Jadson Vale (Bactéria), Rinaldo Carimbó, and Izídio Lê, among other musicians who contribute to the richness of its sound. Combo X's work is recognized for its originality and its ability to dialogue with different musical strands, consolidating itself as an important name in contemporary Brazilian music.
