Biography

Conjunto Farroupilha was a Brazilian vocal group formed in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, in 1948, on the initiative of soprano Inah Vital and maestro Tasso Bangel. Initially called Conjunto Vocal Farroupilha, the group stood out for its versatility, moving between gaúcho regionalism, bossa nova, and international music. Their recording debut took place in 1953 with the LP "Gaúcho", being one of the first records recorded in Brazil.

In the 1950s and 1960s, Conjunto Farroupilha played a fundamental role in promoting the regional music of Rio Grande do Sul, performing throughout Brazil and in various countries, such as Russia, China, Germany, and the United States, often in partnership with the Varig airline. Around the same time, the group also explored the bossa nova genre, recording songs by composers like Tom Jobim and Paulinho Nogueira, and hosting a television program on TV Record.

Throughout its trajectory, Conjunto Farroupilha released several albums and singles, establishing itself as one of the most important vocal groups in Brazilian music. Maestro Tasso Bangel, one of the founders and the group's main arranger, continued his musical career after the end of the ensemble, creating Camerata Pampeana. Conjunto Farroupilha ended its activities in the 1990s, leaving a significant legacy for Brazilian popular music.
