Biography

Consciência Humana is a renowned Brazilian rap group founded in 1990 in the neighborhood of São Mateus, located in the East Zone of São Paulo. Alongside important exponents like Racionais MC's and Facção Central, the lineup is widely recognized as one of the pioneers of the gangsta rap subgenre on the national scene, standing out for the strong political engagement of their compositions.

Originally composed of W.gi (Gilson Oliveira) and Preto Aplick, the group emerged in the independent dance circuit and released their first album, "Enxergue Seus Próprios Erros", in 1993. The success of the track "Tá na Hora" opened doors for new works, including the striking "Entre a Adolescência e o Crime" in 1997 and the album "Agonia do Morro" in 2003, which featured a celebrated partnership with samba singer Beth Carvalho.

Throughout their trajectory, the group was part of the historic DRR Posse and helped consolidate the identity of São Paulo hip hop with dense, social narratives. Although founding member W.gi passed away in June 2023, Consciência Humana's musical legacy remains a fundamental pillar of Brazilian urban culture.
