Biography

Consciência X Atual, often abbreviated as CxA, was a pioneering Brazilian rap and hip-hop group formed in 1994 in the city of Ribeirão Preto, São Paulo. The group originated when members of various rival local freestyle rap circles decided to join forces, eventually becoming a massive influence on the interior hip-hop scene in the state of São Paulo. Throughout their active years, they shared stages and collaborated with other prominent national acts like CTS Kamik-Z and Pacificadores, leaving a lasting legacy in Brazilian urban music.

The collective experienced their commercial and artistic peak between the late 1990s and the early 2000s, releasing several albums and even having their tracks broadcast on radio stations across the country. Tragedy struck in 1999 with the untimely passing of founding member Billy due to coronary thrombosis, prompting the remaining members to honor his memory with the album "A Ressurreição (In Memorian de Billy)". Over more than two decades, they maintained a strong presence in the underground scene, releasing six studio albums and recording a live DVD at SESC Ribeirão Preto in 2013.

The group officially disbanded in 2016 after 22 years of activities, following challenges such as the imprisonment of member Nego Lê. Despite their end, Consciência X Atual remains a cornerstone of regional hip-hop history in Brazil, remembered for their gritty social commentary and resilience. Their extensive discography features notable records such as "Tráfico De Idéias", "Contos do Crime", and "Honra ao Mérito", cementing their important status alongside other Brazilian rap pioneers.
