Biography

Copa 7 is a Brazilian samba-rock and soul musical group formed in the 1970s in Rio de Janeiro. The band stood out for animating dances and parties, creating a Carioca style of samba-soul that influenced Brazilian music.

The original lineup of Copa 7 featured Damião, Pedro Jorge, and Lourenço on vocals, Paulinho Black on drums, Paulinho on bass, Jurandir Guitarra, Ferreira, Hilário, and Cauê on horns, Geraldinho on keyboards, and Nadinho and Jurandir Pretinho on percussion. The band is known for recording two albums, "O Som do Copa volume 1" (1979) and "volume 2" (1980), as well as a rare 7-inch single called "Sabadá".

Considered a reference in samba-rock and Brazilian black music, Copa 7, despite having a relatively small discography, has maintained its relevance over the years. Currently, Damião is the only remaining original member, and the band continues to perform at dances in Rio de Janeiro, keeping the flame of their contagious sound alive.
