José Carlos Costa Netto, known artistically as Costa Netto, is a Brazilian lyricist, cultural producer, and lawyer, born in São Paulo on May 31, 1954. His career in music began in 1977, dedicating himself to writing lyrics, which led to prolific partnerships with various renowned composers of Brazilian popular music.

Throughout his career, Costa Netto collaborated with names such as Eduardo Gudin, with whom he composed classics like "Verde" and "Paulista". "Verde" gained national prominence when performed by Leila Pinheiro at TV Globo's Festival dos Festivais in 1985, establishing itself as a milestone in his career. The song "Paulista", in turn, became an anthem to the city of São Paulo, having been recorded by artists such as Vânia Bastos.

In addition to his work as a lyricist, Costa Netto is also the author of the book "Ecad, cadê o meu? - uma bem humorada cartilha sobre o direito autoral na música popular". His legal background led him to hold important positions, such as appellate judge of the Court of Justice of the State of São Paulo, demonstrating the versatility of his career, which moves between the legal and cultural universes.
