Biography

Cristian Budu is a celebrated Brazilian classical pianist born in Diadema, São Paulo. He studied music at the University of São Paulo under Eduardo Monteiro and later attended the New England Conservatory in Boston, where he was mentored by Wha Kyung Byun. Known for his profound musicality and mature interpretations, Budu has gained international acclaim, being described by critics as an artist of remarkable vision and hailed by legendary pianist Nelson Freire as a potential successor.

Throughout his career, Budu has achieved significant milestones, including winning the prestigious Clara Haskil International Piano Competition in Switzerland. His recordings have received high international praise, earning spots in Gramophone's selective lists and winning awards such as the Editor's Choice in England and the 5-Diapason in France. He has performed solo recitals at major international festivals and venues across Europe and the Americas, collaborating with renowned artists and orchestras.

Beyond his performance career, Budu is deeply committed to music education and community engagement. He founded the Pianosofia project in Brazil to bring classical music into informal home settings and serves as artistic director for several chamber music festivals. He has also participated as a jury member in international piano competitions and dedicated his time to social projects, cementing his status as one of the prominent figures in contemporary Brazilian classical music alongside peers like Nelson Freire.
