Biography
Antonia Cristina Amaral Silva, known artistically as Cristina Amaral, was born in Sertânia, Pernambuco, on June 13, 1962. She began her artistic journey in childhood, singing in Catholic church temples and joining local groups before performing with Orquestra Marajoara and Grupo Os Tropicais, where she shared the stage with singer Flávio José. Her prominent solo career officially began in 1990, when she won the Recifrevo Festival, establishing herself in the northeastern music scene by winning prominent awards, such as at the Canta Nordeste Festival.
Over a career spanning more than two and a half decades, the singer has recorded several albums and taken northeastern regional music to international stages in Europe, participating in tours in the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Portugal, and France, in addition to performing at the prestigious Montreux Festival. In her phonographic works and special projects, Cristina has had the opportunity to share space with great icons of MPB and forró, such as Alceu Valença, Elba Ramalho, Geraldo Azevedo, Dominguinhos, and Gilberto Gil.
In celebration of her 25-year career, she released the CD and DVD "A Vida é um Circo", a project recorded live at Praça do Arsenal, in Recife, which celebrated her childhood memories and circus influences. The work featured special appearances by important names in northeastern culture, such as Petrúcio Amorim, Maciel Melo, Santanna o Cantador, and Cezzinha do Acordeon, reaffirming her commitment to preserving and spreading the musical roots of Pernambuco.
