Biography

Cristina Azuma is a Brazilian classical guitarist, composer, teacher, and music researcher born in São Paulo. She began her artistic journey at a young age, performing since the age of sixteen as a soloist and in guitar duos across various countries in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. She is notable for her ability to move between different musical traditions, combining technical rigor and interpretive depth with innovative artistic projects.

Throughout her academic and artistic career, she has accumulated important milestones, such as being the first student to graduate in guitar from the University of São Paulo (USP) in 1986, in addition to obtaining a doctorate in musicology from the Sorbonne. Her discography spans solo albums and remarkable collaborations with great instrumentalists, including work alongside renowned musicians such as Celso Machado and Paulo Bellinati.

In addition to her intense activity as a concert performer and recording artist, Cristina Azuma works in musicological research, teaching classical guitar and early music in France, and editing sheet music. Her work encompasses both contemporary repertoire and the recovery of historical works for string instruments, consolidating her name on the international guitar scene.
