Biography

Cynara, artistic name of Cinara de Sá Leite Faria, was a Brazilian singer, arranger, and composer, born in Ibirataia, Bahia, on January 7, 1945. She began her artistic career in 1964 as a member of the vocal group Quarteto em Cy, alongside her sisters Cyva, Cybele, and Cylene. The group, which became one of the most important in Brazilian Popular Music (MPB), made its official debut on June 30, 1964, at Bottles Bar in Rio de Janeiro. Together, they released over 30 albums and marked the history of national music with their in-tune voices and interpretations of classics by great Brazilian composers.

In 1967, Cynara temporarily left Quarteto em Cy to form a duo with her sister Cybele. The duo Cynara & Cybele participated in important festivals, such as the II International Song Festival (FIC) and the TV Excelsior Festival, where they presented songs by composers such as Chico Buarque and Milton Nascimento. In 1969, Cynara released her first solo album, "Pronta pra consumo", featuring her own compositions. She returned to Quarteto em Cy in 1972, remaining with the group until 1984.

Throughout her career, Cynara also worked as an arranger and composer, leaving her mark on various songs. Her musical trajectory is intrinsically linked to the history of Quarteto em Cy and MPB, with participations in albums and shows by renowned artists. Cynara passed away on April 11, 2023, in Rio de Janeiro, at the age of 78, a victim of respiratory failure, leaving an inestimable legacy for Brazilian music.
