Biography

Cyro Marin Pereira was born in Rio Grande on August 14, 1929, and built a solid trajectory as a Brazilian conductor, composer, arranger, and pianist. He wrote his first orchestral arrangement in his youth, in 1947, marking the beginning of a career dedicated to instrumental and symphonic music. Over the years, he established himself as a central figure in the country's music scene, eventually teaching the orchestration discipline at UNICAMP.

His artistic work was deeply connected to important moments in national culture, having served as the orchestra director for the former Rede Record festivals and participated in memorable programs such as "O Fino da Bossa," which was hosted by Elis Regina and Jair Rodrigues. In addition, Cyro Pereira took on the position of conductor of the Jazz Sinfônica Orchestra, helping to shape the sound and prestige of the institution.

Cyro's talent earned him various awards and recognitions throughout his life, including the Roquette Pinto Trophy, the title of Best Composer of the Year, and an award from the Brazilian Academy of Music for "Concerto em Ré Maior," composed on themes by Ernesto Nazareth. He passed away in São Paulo on June 9, 2011, at the age of 81, leaving a legacy immortalized in his discography and in the biography written by journalist Irineu Franco Perpétuo.
