Biography
Da Ghama, stage name of Paulo Roberto da Rocha Gama, was born in Belford Roxo and solidified his name in the history of Brazilian music as one of the founders of the iconic band Cidade Negra. Working as a guitarist, singer, songwriter, and music producer, he was part of the group from its formation in 1986 until 2008, a period during which he helped shape the sound of national reggae alongside partners such as Ras Bernardo, Bino Farias, and Lazão.
After leaving the group, Da Ghama embarked on a consistent solo career, adopting the spelling with an "h" and releasing remarkable works such as his debut album "Violas e Canções" in 2008, followed by "BaixaFrikaBrasil" in 2016. Throughout his individual trajectory, the artist maintained strong connections with the Brazilian music scene, collaborating with various exponents of the genre and releasing, in November 2024, his third solo album titled "Sinal de Paz", which featured participations by names such as Evandro Mesquita and Edu Ribeiro.
In addition to his expressive artistic contribution, Da Ghama has also stood out in social and cultural projects, founding the NGO União Cultural Esportiva Baixada and working as the host of radio programs dedicated to the diffusion of reggae in Brazil. More recently, he joined other veterans to found the Originais Cidade project, reinforcing his legacy in preserving the roots of Brazilian reggae and keeping alive a four-decade trajectory dedicated to music.
