Biography

João Rocha, known artistically as Dadá Joãozinho, is a Brazilian musician, singer, composer, and producer who emerged from Niterói, Rio de Janeiro. He first gained recognition as a member of the artistic collective ROSABEGE, formed in 2017 with friends from his hometown. Initially, ROSABEGE's sound was more aligned with classical Bossa Nova, drawing from Brazil's rich musical past. However, as Rocha matured and moved to São Paulo in 2020, his musical direction evolved significantly.

His solo project, Dadá Joãozinho, marked a departure from the lighter influences of his earlier work. The moniker "Dadá" is an homage to a "special creature," while "zinho" signifies "little," a persona that allowed Rocha to explore new artistic possibilities and vocal styles. His debut solo album, "Tds Bem Global" (2023), released by Innovative Leisure, showcases a diverse range of influences, including dub reggae, hip hop, punk, and samba, often blending them into what critics describe as a "psychedelic fever-dream." This album reflects a more intense and darker sound, moving away from the idealized "Brazilian Utopia" of 1970s Música Popular Brasileira, and instead aiming to capture the realities of contemporary Brazilian youth culture and the political climate.

Dadá Joãozinho's music is characterized by its genre-agnostic approach, incorporating elements of trappy hip hop, melodic reggaeton, and electronic music, with a strong emphasis on rhythm and groove. He plays nearly all the instruments on his recordings, including electric and acoustic guitar, organ, and electronic production, alongside drum programming. Despite being a solo project, "Tds Bem Global" features collaborations with various artists, reflecting his desire to connect people through music. His artistic philosophy centers on freedom of expression, encouraging experimentation with instruments, vocals, and songwriting to evoke genuine emotions and reach listeners on a profound level.
