Biography

Eduardo "Dado" Dutra Villa-Lobos, born in Brussels, Belgium on June 29, 1965, is a highly influential Brazilian musician, songwriter, and guitarist. He is best known as a founding member and the ex-guitarist of the legendary Brazilian rock band Legião Urbana, which he formed in Brasília in 1982 alongside singer Renato Russo and drummer Marcelo Bonfá. Villa-Lobos was an integral part of Legião Urbana, contributing to all of their studio albums until the band's dissolution in 1996 following the death of Renato Russo. His distinctive guitar work played a significant role in shaping the band's iconic sound, which blended post-punk, alternative rock, and pop rock elements.

Following the end of Legião Urbana, Dado Villa-Lobos embarked on a successful solo career, releasing his debut solo album, "Jardim de Cáctus," in 2005. He has continued to explore various musical avenues, collaborating with other artists and releasing further solo material, including "O Passo do Colapso" in 2012. Villa-Lobos is also recognized for his deep connection to Brazilian music, being the grandnephew of the renowned classical composer Heitor Villa-Lobos. His career has spanned decades, cementing his status as a pivotal figure in Brazilian rock music.

Beyond his work with Legião Urbana and his solo endeavors, Dado Villa-Lobos has been involved in various other projects and has been recognized for his contributions to music. He was among the first to assist Herbert Vianna after his ultralight plane crash in 2001, an event that deeply affected him. Villa-Lobos's musical journey is marked by his innovative guitar playing and his enduring influence on subsequent generations of Brazilian musicians, including artists like Projota and Paula Toller, with whom he has collaborated.
