Biography
Dalto Roberto Medeiros, known professionally as Dalto, is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and former physician born in Rio de Janeiro. Raised in Niterói, he got his start in the early 1970s as the lead vocalist of the rock band Os Lobos before briefly stepping away from music to complete his medical degree. After practicing medicine for only three years, he returned to music and achieved massive national prominence as a solo artist with his smash hit "Muito Estranho", which sold over half a million copies in Brazil.
Throughout the 1980s, Dalto cemented his reputation as a prolific hitmaker and composer within Brazilian popular music. His subsequent albums featured successful tracks such as "Pessoa", "Espelhos D'Água", and "Anjo", the latter of which was famously recorded by the group Roupa Nova. His compositions also intersected with the work of other prominent artists, including partnerships with Byafra and Renato Corrêa of Golden Boys, while his songs were later interpreted by artists like Marina Lima and Patrícia Marx.
In the following decades, Dalto continued to release new material, such as his 1994 album Guru and the 2000 release Cachorro fujão. His legacy extended across generations as his catalog was revisited by artists like Nando Reis, and his work contributed to television soundtracks. Today, he remains active in the Brazilian music scene through ongoing composition and performance.
