Biography

Daniel Pezzotti was an acclaimed Swiss cellist, known for his versatility and for moving masterfully between classical music and jazz. Graduating with distinction from the Zurich Conservatory in 1981, Pezzotti built a solid international career as a soloist and chamber musician. His work in the field of classical music was marked by an intense schedule of concerts around the world.

In addition to his classical career, Pezzotti was an active and innovative jazz musician. His friendship and collaboration with the renowned Brazilian musician Hermeto Pascoal were particularly significant, culminating in joint performances in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 and the development of a duo with flutist and saxophonist Carlos Malta. This interaction with Brazilian music enriched his sound and broadened his range of influences.

Pezzotti also collaborated with other internationally renowned artists, such as Lee Konitz, Tom Harrell, Steve Swallow and Andreas Vollenweider, and participated in recordings for labels such as EMI, CBS, Blue Note and Enja. His discography includes the album "Daniel Pezzotti's Cellobration", where he explores the diversity of the cello in different musical genres. Pezzotti taught at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste and served as a guest lecturer at the International Cello Encounter in Rio de Janeiro, leaving a legacy as one of the most creative cellists of his generation.
