Biography

Daúde, born Maria Waldelurdes Costa de Santana Dutilleux in Salvador, Bahia, is a pioneering Brazilian singer, actress, model, and music producer. Recognized as the first artist to blend electronic music with Brazilian popular music within the Nova MPB movement, she studied classical voice at the Instituto Villa-Lobos and dramatic arts at the Escola de Teatro Martins Pena in Rio de Janeiro. Her diverse artistic style incorporates MPB, soul, funk, smooth jazz, samba-funk, jongo, ciranda, and coco de roda.

Throughout her career, Daúde has released critically acclaimed albums starting with her 1990s self-titled debut, which earned her three revelation awards including the Prêmio Sharp and the APCA award. Her subsequent releases include Daúde #2, the remix album Simbora, the internationally acclaimed Neguinha te amo released through Peter Gabriel's Real World Records, Código Daúde, and Pelos olhos do mar in collaboration with Lia de Itamaracá. She has worked with numerous notable figures in Brazilian music, such as Jorge Ben Jor, Caetano Veloso, Carlinhos Brown, Alceu Valença, and Nelson Sargento.

In addition to her extensive discography, Daúde has maintained a vibrant career in theater, film, and television. She has acted in theatrical productions directed by Luiz Antonio Martinez Correa and performed musical adaptations by Luiz Mendonça. On screen, she appeared in the television series Viva o Gordo and various telenovelas, while also portraying the legendary singer Miriam Makeba in the biographical film Chacrinha, o velho guerreiro.
