Biography
Dauro do Salgueiro, born Dauro Ribeiro on October 13, 1935, is a Brazilian samba singer and songwriter. He became involved with the renowned samba school G.R.E.S. Acadêmicos do Salgueiro in 1958, joining its composers' wing in 1963. His musical journey began with the release of his first song, "Graças a Deus" (co-written with Binha), on the LP "Musidisc Ala dos compositores do Salgueiro" in 1964. He further established himself as a singer with the release of the samba "Ironia do destino" (co-written with Zuzuca and Adir Morais) on a compact disc in 1966.
Throughout his career, Dauro do Salgueiro has been a prolific composer, often collaborating with other notable artists in the samba scene, most notably Nei Lopes. Together, they penned significant works such as "Hino de amor ao Salgueiro" (1975), which was recorded by Zuzuca and included in the LP "As Minas do Rei Salomão." Another notable collaboration is "Novamente primavera," which was featured on Alcione's album "Ouro e cobre" in 1976. His compositions have been integral to the Acadêmicos do Salgueiro's samba-enredo, including "Segredo das minas do rei Salomão" (1975), which achieved considerable success during the school's parade.
Dauro do Salgueiro has also been associated with the "Velha Guarda do Salgueiro," a group that preserves and performs the traditional samba music of the Acadêmicos do Salgueiro. He participated in collective works such as the LP "Pagode de Natal – A noite feliz dos bambas" (1984) and the compilation CD "Eterno guardiões" (2010). His contributions to samba music and his deep connection to the Salgueiro samba school solidify his place in Brazilian popular music.
