Biography

David Nasser was a prominent Brazilian composer and journalist, born in Jaú on January 1, 1917, and passing away in Rio de Janeiro on December 10, 1980. The son of Lebanese immigrants, his childhood was marked by a bout of meningitis that fueled his passion for reading and writing stories. After moving to Rio de Janeiro, he faced many hardships before reconnecting with the famous singer Francisco Alves, a turning point that successfully launched his career as a songwriter.

In addition to his celebrated work as a journalist for major publications like O Cruzeiro alongside photographer Jean Manzon, Nasser made a significant mark on Brazilian popular music. In 1940, he achieved massive success with the hit song "Nêga do Cabelo Duro," composed in partnership with Rubens Soares, establishing himself as a talented writer of sambas and samba-canções. His deep involvement in Rio de Janeiro's cultural scene allowed him to collaborate with numerous prominent figures of Brazilian popular music until his later years.
