Biography

David Tygel is a prominent Brazilian singer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist, and composer, born in Rio de Janeiro on July 4, 1949. He began his professional career as a member of the vocal group Momentoquatro, alongside Maurício Maestro, Zé Rodrix, and Ricardo Vilas. With this group, he famously accompanied Edu Lobo in 1967 during the performance of the classic song "Ponteio" at the Rede Record Festival.

In 1978, Tygel co-founded the legendary MPB group Boca Livre, teaming up with Maurício Maestro, Zé Renato, and Claudio Nucci. He remained a vital part of the group until 1992 and later returned in 2006, contributing to iconic albums such as their self-titled 1979 debut and the 1982 release "Folia". His work with Boca Livre helped define the sophisticated vocal harmony movement in Brazilian popular music.

Beyond his vocal group endeavors, Tygel has established a prolific career composing and arranging scores for nearly 30 films, earning the prestigious Kikito award for best musical score at the Festival de Gramado five times. Notable cinematic works include his arrangements for films like "O Homem da Capa Preta" and "Dois Perdidos em uma Noite Suja". He also shares his expertise as an educator, teaching film scoring at PUC/RJ and sound narrative at FACHA.
