Biography

Dazaranha, also affectionately known as Daza, is one of the most emblematic bands in the music scene of Santa Catarina, with over three decades of history celebrating the culture of Santa Catarina Island. Formed in Florianópolis in August 1992, the group stood out from the beginning by mixing influences of reggae, rock, and MPB, with the prominent presence of the violin in their arrangements as their trademark. Over the years, the band achieved national projection and built a solid discography, marked by historic moments such as the release of the album Tribo da Lua in 1998, which earned the first gold record in the music of Santa Catarina.

The identity of Dazaranha is deeply connected to the daily life and imagery of Florianópolis, incorporating local "manezinho" expressions and poetic references to the sea, fishing, and insular landscapes. This unique sound gained new contours throughout history with the addition of brass instruments like Trio Santo Amaro and various major collaborations with great names in Brazilian music, such as Jorge Ben Jor, Lenine, and Vitor Kley. Furthermore, the band innovated by setting up their own studio in an old water tank in the capital of Santa Catarina and produced memorable works, such as the DVD with Camerata Florianópolis and the album Catarina.

Consolidated as Cultural Heritage of Florianópolis since 2006, the group knew how to reinvent themselves after changes in the vocal lineup — coming to feature Chico Martins and Moriel Costa leading the vocals — and stayed at the forefront of independent music by signing with Midas Music. With international tours, tens of millions of streams on digital platforms, and a strong connection with new generations, Dazaranha remains a true living symbol of the art and identity of Southern Brazil, engaging with contemporary artists and keeping the flame of Santa Catarina's music alive.
