Biography

De Falla is a prominent Brazilian rock and roll band formed in Porto Alegre in 1985, taking their name from the renowned Spanish classical composer Manuel de Falla. Led by founder Edu K, the group has become famous for its constantly shifting line-ups, eclectic musical exploration, and striking aesthetic presentations. Throughout their career, they have incorporated elements ranging from new wave, funk rock, and heavy metal to glam rock, electronic big beat, and carioca funk.

Emerging from the alternative music circuit of Porto Alegre before making waves in São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, De Falla played a crucial role in shaping the Brazilian underground rock scene. Their influential performances in the 1990s helped open doors for a new generation of alternative artists, including Nação Zumbi, Pato Fu, Planet Hemp, and Mamonas Assassinas. Over the decades, the band released notable albums such as Papaparty, Screw You!, and Miami Rock 2000, the latter of which sparked both controversy and mainstream success with their miami bass-infused hit "Popozuda Rock'n'Roll."

Despite frequent hiatuses and radical transformations in style, the classic lineup has reunited periodically to celebrate their enduring legacy, culminating in projects like the 2016 studio album Monstro and the 2019 documentary Sobre Amanhã. Their willingness to reinvent themselves—transitioning from thrash-leaning heavy metal to industrial rock and digital cumbia—cements their status as one of the most innovative and mercurial forces in Brazilian rock history.
