Biography
The Brazilian rap group De Menos Crime emerged in 1987 in the neighborhood of São Mateus, located in the East Zone of São Paulo. The original lineup featured members Marcelo Pereira, known as Lerap, Ricardo Ferreira, Mago Abelha, and Jeferson Damasceno, Mikimba, alongside the participation of DJ Vlad. The band's trajectory began with performances at local parties, which quickly brought them enough prominence to share the stage with renowned artists and groups, including Charlie Brown Jr.
Their debut studio album, titled Na Sua Mais Perfeita Ignorância, was released in 1995 and brought them national projection with the song "Policiais", whose music video reached a prominent position among the top five rap videos at the 1997 MTV Awards. Subsequently, in 1998, the group achieved an even higher level of commercial and critical recognition with the release of their second record, São Mateus pra Vida, which sold around 150 thousand copies. This work was propelled by the success of the track "Fogo na Bomba", a song that addressed cannabis consumption and ended up generating police persecution against the musicians.
Throughout their career, De Menos Crime went through different record labels, breaking away from Kaskatas Records to sign with Sky Blue/RDS, the label responsible for releasing the album Rap das Quebradas in 2001. The group's discography also includes works such as O Revertério, released in 2005, in addition to compilations and digital singles published independently or in partnership with D.R.R. Banda in recent years. Much like pioneers of the genre in the country, such as Racionais MC's, the group consolidated their importance in the national rap scene.
