Biography

Deise Cipriano was one of the most striking and powerful voices in Brazilian music, standing out as the lead vocalist of the group Fat Family. Born in Sorocaba, São Paulo, she demonstrated vocal talent since childhood, singing in bars and pizzerias before achieving great national prominence in the late 1990s alongside her siblings. With Fat Family, she scored memorable hits like "Jeito Sexy" and "Onde Foi Que Eu Errei?", exploring R&B, soul, and pop sounds with vocal virtuosity admired throughout the country.

Throughout her career, Deise transitioned through different genres and movements, including ventures into gospel music and MPB. Her powerful and versatile voice earned her comparisons to major international divas, with Whitney Houston as her greatest reference, although she also nurtured a strong admiration for national icons like Gal Costa, Djavan, and Tim Maia. In addition to her striking work in the group, she left an undeniable legacy in Brazilian black music and moved the audience with precise and striking interpretations.

She passed away in February 2019, at the age of 39, after a courageous battle with liver cancer. Her passing caused great emotion in the artistic community and among fans, leaving behind a daughter, Talita Cipriano, who also followed in her mother's footsteps in a musical career. Deise's legacy lives on through her phonographic records and posthumous albums that celebrate her invaluable contribution to national culture.
