Biography

Deize Maria Gonçalves da Silva, known artistically as Deize Tigrona, was born in Rio de Janeiro and emerged on the music scene in the early 2000s. Working initially as a domestic worker, she began her journey as an MC in the Rio nightlife and achieved great national projection in 2004 with the hit "Injeção", produced by DJ Marlboro. The track gained international prominence after being sampled by English artist M.I.A. on the single "Bucky Done Gun" and mixed by producer Diplo, consolidating Deize as one of the pioneers of funk carioca alongside names like Tati Quebra Barraco.

Despite the international repercussion and touring Europe in 2006, as well as collaborating with the group Buraka Som Sistema, the singer faced difficulties with a lack of support from record labels and independent managers, which led her to temporarily step away from music and return to work as a street cleaner and cleaning lady.

Years later, in 2019, Deize resumed her artistic career after television appearances and returned to the stage with international performances in Europe, reaffirming her historical importance in the consolidation of female funk carioca.
