Biography

Délcio Carvalho was a renowned Brazilian singer and songwriter, born in Campos dos Goytacazes, Rio de Janeiro, on March 9, 1939. His musical career spanned over five decades, leaving a significant legacy in samba and Brazilian Popular Music (MPB). The son of a musician, Délcio had contact with music from an early age, but his professional career in the field began after military service, when he moved to Rio de Janeiro.

Throughout his career, Délcio Carvalho stood out for his prolific partnership with Dona Ivone Lara, one of the greatest ladies of samba. Together, they composed timeless classics such as "Sonho Meu", "Acreditar" and "Alvorecer", songs that became milestones in Brazilian music and were interpreted by several renowned artists. In addition to Dona Ivone Lara, Carvalho collaborated with other important names in samba, such as Dedé da Portela, Adeílton Alves de Souza, Elton Medeiros, Ivor Lancellotti, Nei Lopes, Wilson das Neves, among others.

Délcio Carvalho also worked as a singer, releasing several records and performing in shows and festivals. His body of work spans over 200 compositions, recorded by artists like Clara Nunes, Beth Carvalho, Gal Costa, Maria Bethânia and Zeca Pagodinho. He passed away on November 12, 2013, in Rio de Janeiro, a victim of gastric cancer, but his work continues to inspire and move new generations of musicians and lovers of Brazilian music.
