Biography

Denise Cerqueira was a prominent Brazilian contemporary Christian music singer who achieved major success during the early 1990s. Born in Rio de Janeiro, she dedicated her life to religious music after becoming a Protestant Christian in her youth. Her breakthrough came with the 1992 album featuring the Portuguese version of Marcos Witt's song "Renova-me", which became one of the most played tracks on Christian radio stations across Brazil in 1993. Throughout her career, she worked closely with producer Pedro Braconnot and songwriter Josué Teodoro, releasing acclaimed works like Eterno Amor and Em Tua Presença.

Her musical journey was deeply intertwined with the development of the Brazilian gospel music scene, collaborating with various artists and earning recognition at the Troféu Talento awards. Tragically, her life and career were cut short when she died in a car accident in the interior of Piauí in November 1999. Despite her untimely passing, her legacy endures through numerous tributes and recordings of her songs by prominent gospel artists such as Cristina Mel, Rose Nascimento, and Cassiane. Her son, David Cerqueira, also followed in her footsteps as a gospel musician and preserved her memory through special projects.
