Biography

Deny e Dino was a prominent Brazilian musical duo formed in Santos by singer-songwriters José Rodrigues da Silva, known as Deny, and Décio Scarpelli, known as Dino. The two met in 1956 and initially performed as part of the group Os Boas Pintas in the late 1950s before adopting their famous duo moniker in the 1960s at the invitation of television host Hugo Santana. Their breakthrough came with the 1966 release of the hit single "Coruja" via Odeon records, which propelled them to national stardom alongside contemporaries of the Jovem Guarda movement such as Roberto Carlos.

As key participants in the iconic Jovem Guarda television program on TV Record in São Paulo, the duo released numerous successful tracks including "Eu não me importo," "Lição de moral," and "O estranho homem do disco voador." Their debut LP, Coruja, achieved the remarkable feat of selling over two million copies, earning them multiple gold records and prestigious trophies like the Chico Viola and Roquette-Pinto awards. Throughout their career, they recorded over 30 singles and 10 LPs, with their music reaching audiences across Latin America.

Following the passing of Dino in 1994, Deny continued the legacy of the duo alongside a new partner, Elliot de Souza Reis, who assumed the name Dino starting in 1996. Deny later participated in commemorative anniversary shows celebrating three decades of Jovem Guarda and dedicated himself to hosting radio programs focused on the classic rock and roll of the 1950s and 1960s.
