Biography

Dercio Marques was born in Uberaba, Minas Gerais, and consolidated his career as an important viola player, singer, interpreter, composer, and researcher of Brazilian and Ibero-American musical roots. He had his sister Doroty Marques as one of his main artistic and production partners, collaborating in the dissemination and preservation of Brazilian popular culture and nature, with a strong focus on defending the cerrado biome. His work is marked by a deep respect for traditional customs, dialoguing with manifestations such as congadas and folias de reis.

Throughout his career, he released remarkable works such as his debut album "Terra, vento, caminho.", on the Discos Marcus Pereira label, in which he interpreted compositions by Atahualpa Yupanqui and viola player Elomar. Also standing out in his discography are albums like "Canto forte-Coro da primavera", "Fulejo", and the award-winning "Monjolear", in addition to partnerships and experiences with great names of Brazilian music, such as João do Vale, Paulinho Pedra Azul, and Xangai. He passed away in Salvador in 2012, leaving an indelible legacy for the country's roots music and popular culture.
